Education

The 4Cs — What they mean for you

Every diamond is graded on four criteria. Together, they determine its beauty and value. Here's what to look for.

Cut
The most important factor. Cut determines how brilliantly a diamond reflects light. We carry Excellent and Very Good cuts — because a poorly cut stone hides its own fire.

Colour
Graded D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). MyCarat's standard range is G–I — near-colourless, indistinguishable from D without a grading tool, and significantly better value.

Clarity
Refers to internal inclusions and surface blemishes. VS1–VS2 and SI1 are our sweet spot — eye-clean to the naked eye, with no impact on the stone's brilliance or durability.

Carat
The weight of the diamond. One carat = 0.2g. Larger isn't always better — a 0.70ct with Excellent cut can outshine a dull 1.0ct. We'll help you find the right balance.

Quality Control

Certificate verification

Diamond certificate (IGI, GIA, or SGL) is cross-checked against the stone's actual measurements and weight using a diamond grading tool.

Metal purity test

Gold purity (18KT or 22KT) is verified via XRF spectrometry before setting. All pieces are BIS hallmarked as mandated by Indian law.

Setting security check

Every prong, bezel, and setting is examined under 10x magnification to ensure the stone is secure and correctly aligned.

Finish & polish review

Surface finish is inspected for scratches, tool marks, or uneven polish. Pieces are re-polished if they don't meet our mirror standard.

Weight verification

Final piece weight is recorded and cross-checked against the product listing and invoice. What you see is exactly what you receive.

Photography sign-off

A final photograph is taken and matched to the product listing image before packing — so what you see online is exactly what ships.

Secure packaging

Jewellery is packed in tamper-evident, insured packaging with the diamond certificate, hallmark certificate, care guide, and invoice.

Every diamond sold by MyCarat comes with a certificate from IGI, GIA, or SGL clearly stating whether it is natural or lab-grown. We stock both, but every listing specifies this. If in doubt, ask us before purchasing.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark is India's official certification of gold purity. A BIS mark on 18KT gold guarantees a minimum of 75% pure gold content. It's a legal requirement since 2021 for all gold jewellery sold in India.
Yes. You can submit any piece to any authorised IGI, GIA, or BIS test centre independently. We encourage this — our jewellery will pass every test.
Contact us within 48 hours with photographs. We will collect the piece at no cost to you and either replace it or refund in full. In over [X] years, this has never happened — but the guarantee stands.
18KT gold is 75% pure gold mixed with alloys (usually copper, silver, or palladium) for durability — ideal for diamond jewellery because it holds settings firmly. 22KT is 91.6% pure, softer, and used in traditional gold jewellery. For diamond-set pieces, 18KT is always recommended.
